Units of Measure

Preferred Baffle Height? Which baffle height should I choose? FlexiBaffles are available in 100mm and 150mm heights. Taller baffles create deeper rest pools but can be harder to install in smaller culverts. For round culverts under 1600mm, and flat-bottom culverts under 1200 mm, we recommend using the 100mm baffles. Learn more

Preferred Baffle Height? Which baffle height should I choose? FlexiBaffles are available in 6” and 10” heights. Taller baffles create deeper rest pools but can be harder to install in smaller round culverts. Learn more

Do you want offset installation? Offset vs Centred - what’s the difference? Round Culverts: Offset baffles guide water around one end at low flows, making calmer rest pools and easier passage. Centred baffles slow the full flow and can hold more bed material. Flat-Bottom Culverts: Offset baffles are about 20% shorter and alternate left/right to meander the flow, while centred ones run wall-to-wall and retain bed material. Learn more

Is the culvert perched? What is a perched culvert? A culvert where the outlet hangs above the streambed, often because of erosion or because fish passage wasn’t considered when it was built. This creates a drop that fish can’t swim or jump past. Learn more

Does this culvert have an apron? What is a culvert apron? An apron is the flat concrete slab built at the outlet, and sometimes the inlet, of a culvert. It helps protect against erosion but can also create barriers to fish passage. Learn more
